Road Signs in Kenya

Kenya uses three categories of road signs: regulatory (commands), warning (alerts), and informatory (guidance). Each has a distinct shape and color.

Regulatory signs are circular with a red border. They are legally enforceable. Warning signs are triangular with a red border. Informatory signs are rectangular, typically green or blue.

  • 1Red circle = prohibition or restriction (you must not)
  • 2Blue circle = mandatory instruction (you must)
  • 3Triangle with red border = warning (prepare for hazard)
  • 4Green rectangle = direction sign
  • 5Blue rectangle = facility sign (hospital, fuel, parking)
  • 6Octagonal = Stop sign (complete stop required)
