Speed Limits in Kenya

Speed limits in Kenya are set by law and enforced by traffic police and NTSA cameras. Exceeding them is a traffic offence.

The speed limit is the maximum for ideal conditions. In rain, fog, or at night, you should drive slower than the posted limit.

Key Rules

  • 1Built-up areas (towns/cities): 50 km/h
  • 2Rural roads: 100 km/h
  • 3Highways / dual carriageways: 110 km/h
  • 4School zones: 30 km/h
  • 5PSV (matatus, buses): 80 km/h maximum regardless of road type
  • 6At 100 km/h, you need 76 metres to stop. Almost a football field.
